Project Description
Ingredients:
6 cups Flour
1/2 cup Sugar
1 tsp Salt
2 packages Active Dry Yeast
2 1/2 sticks Butter, softened
2 cups hot tap Water
1 Egg
Instructions:
In a stand mixer on low speed combine 2 1/4 cups of the flour, the sugar, salt and yeast. Add in 1/2 cup of the softened butter. With the mixer running, slowly stream in the water. Add in the egg and increase the mixer speed to medium. Beat 2 minutes. Add in another 3/4 cup flour and beat another minute. Turn the mixer down to low and mix in an additional 2 1/2 cups or so of flour or until a soft dough forms.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 5-10 minutes, adding more flour if needed. Place the ball of dough in a greased bowl and cover with a towel. Let rise for one and a half hours.
Punch the dough down and knead on a floured surface for a few minutes. Cover again for 15 minutes.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Melt 1/2 cup Butter and pour into a large baking sheet. Disperse evenly. Roll out the dough until 1/2 inch thick. Cut out the dough into circles about 2 inches wide. Dip them into the butter and fold over in half in the pan. Arrange the half circles in rows and bake for 15 minutes or until golden. Brush the remaining 1/4 cup melted butter on top. Enjoy!
